Born to Dance, Children Keep “Nutcracker” Tradition Alive

One ballet in particular speaks right to the hearts of children. For many young dancers, Tchaikovsky’s "Nutcracker” is as synonymous with the holiday spirit as Santa Claus, sleigh rides and caroling.

As Ballet Memphis puts the finishing touches on this year’s production of “The Nutcracker” at the Orpheum theater, some of the show’s youngest performers dream not of a white Christmas, but of perfectly playing their roles in this classic production. What’s more, it’s a show they can grow with for years to come.

Reporting from the gates of Graceland to the balcony of the Lorraine Motel, Christopher has covered Memphis news, arts, culture and politics for more than 20 years in print and on the radio. He is currently WKNO's News Director and Senior Producer at the University of Memphis' Institute for Public Service Reporting.
