Brooks Museum Curator Marina Pacini and University of Memphis English Professor Donal Harris discuss details of the upcoming Seeing Civil Rights Symposium.

The Brooks Museum of Art and the Department of English at The University of Memphis are partnering to present Seeing Civil Rights, a symposium that explores how Ernest C. Withers and his contemporaries imagined photography's dual role as an art form and a tool for political change. Esteemed and provocative scholars, writers, and artists will address how photographs shaped the immediate reception of the civil rights movement and continue to impact how we remember it. The event is held in conjunction with the exhibit Black Resistance: Ernest C. Withers and the Civil Rights Movement, and will take place Wednesday, March 28 and Thursday, March 29. Brooks Museum Chief Curator Marina Pacini and University of Memphis English professor Donal Harris discuss the symposium's importance and the roster of speakers who are participating.
