Emergency Preparedness

Memphis weather can be unpredictable and the time to prepare for emergencies is now and Ready Shelby can help.

ReadyShelby.org, is a user friendly site to help protect you and your loved ones should an emergency arise in our community.

Here is a review of their recommended 5 steps to preparedness:

MAKE A PLAN.

  • Teach your children about 911.
  • Post emergency phone numbers that all family members can access.
  • Make sure everyone in the family knows how to shut off the gas, water and electricity.    

FIND A SAFE PLACE.

  • Have a plan of communication if your family is separated in an emergency situation. Identify a safe place for you family to gather.
  • Know where to go and what to do if you experience a tornado, fire or earthquake.

BUILD A KIT. Prepare an emergency kit including first aid supplies

  • Store enough supplies to last 3 days in a large waterproof container.
  • Review Ready Shelby for kit recommendations, such as water, food, important family documents, cleaning agents and more.

PACK A GO BAG.

  • Have items ready if you need to evacuate your home in a hurry.

KNOW FIRST AID.

  • Learn Compression only CPR (push hard, push fast to the beat of Staying Alive)

Attend TRAINING. Participate in Ready Shelby’s Community Emergency Response Team training (CERT)
