The Gift of Good Health

As the holidays approach, it is more important than ever to manage a healthy work/life balance.

Holidays can be a wonderful time to spend with loved ones, but the hustle and bustle of the season can make you feel one reindeer short of Santa’s sleigh. According to psychologist Marilyn Puder-York, there are some steps you can take to reclaim a healthy work life balance.

  1. Identify imbalances. “The choices that you make and the way you choose to spend your time can have a large impact on your life and overall resilience.” (The Office Survival Guide) Perfectionism, poor delegation or poor boundaries can contribute to life imbalances and stress.

  2. Respect your mind and your body’s limits. Your body was meant to move and your mind needs a break. High intensity exercise releases stress and low intensity exercise helps to relax and restore the body. Exercise can give your mind and body a rest.

  3. Stay positive. This will help you to maintain your focus on your goal of managing priorities at home, at work and with your health.

  4. Prioritize especially during the holidays.

    1. What activities are most important? What has the most meaning?

    2. What activities can I drop?

    3. Cut your shopping time by picking a theme. Buy gifts online or shop from the same store.

    4. Hire help or delegate if you are overworked.

    5. Make an appointment to rest, read and relax. It will help you to be more present in the moment.
