Health Fact or Fiction

Church Health Center

These days, there are a ton of health rumors and claims polluting the minds of consumers.

We see it every day on the TV, hear it on the radio and are bombarded by it on social media. While some may have a bit of accuracy to them, the majority are far from the truth. For instance, have you ever heard that drinking water will help you lose weight? Ideally, the more water you drink, the less sugary drinks you consume. Therefore, consuming more water as means to reduce or eliminate sugary drinks, can in the long run aid in weight loss. However, just simply drinking water will not wash away the extra pounds.

Another claim is that doing crunches or abdominal exercises will decrease belly fat. While, crunches can create stronger abdominal muscles, you cannot spot train for weight loss. Instead, do a mix of cardiovascular exercises and strength training. By combining exercise with good nutrition, you will see an overall reduction in body weight.

Stick with healthy eating habits and a consistent workout routine for the best, myth-free results. I’m Erica Freeman with the Church Health Center.
