'Udderly' Amazing: Fabric Made From Milk

RENEE MONTAGNE, host: And our last word in business today is: got milk. It may be the dairy industry's slogan here in the U.S., but a young fashion designer in Germany could well be uttering those words. She's planning an entire line of clothing using a fabric she developed from milk.

The material is made from high concentrations of the milk protein casein. Milk-based fabrics have actually been around since the 1930s, but according to Reuters, this is the first time milk fiber has been produced entirely without chemicals, thus making it more ecological. The German designer says the material feels like silk, it does not smell, and it takes only about a gallon-and-a-half of milk to make an entire dress.
