May is Global Employee Health and Fitness Month

Employers are beginning to recognize the benefits of having a healthier workforce.

Not only will a worksite wellness program help decrease health care cost, but employees are more satisfied and productive at work. Global Employee Health and Fitness Month is a wonderful opportunity for employers to introduce health promotion in the workplace.

During the month of May, consider these activities:

  • Form a Walk on Wednesday Group.
  • Challenge your staff to drink 64 ounces of water each day.
  • Email staff a health tip each day or at the beginning of the week.
  • Have an hourly stretch break.
  • Have all meetings standing. (Those meetings will be short!)
  • Offer fruit baskets for employees.
  • Challenge employees to bring a healthy lunch each day instead of eating out.

Your company may want to create a company-wide policy incorporating physical activity into the workplace.

It is essential to have favorable senior leadership to support a healthier work environment. This will not only benefit the employee, but also helps to lower healthcare costs.
