Memphis, TN – Thomas Moss, a letter carrier in Memphis, saved enough money to go into partnership with two other black men, Calvin McDonald and Henry Steward, to open a store in the suburbs of Memphis. Black customers switched their business from a white man's grocery the street to Moss's new store, where service and prices were good. The outraged white storekeeper created a disturbance.
