Michael Pollan Discusses His New Book "Cooked"

In his latest book, prominent food writer Michael Pollan explores the previously uncharted territory of his own kitchen.

In books like "The Omnivore's Dilemma," "Food Rules," and "In Defense of Food," Michael Pollan has told us what, why and how to eat. In his new book, "Cooked" he harnesses the four classical elements - Fire, Water, Air, and Earth - to transform natural substances into, well, food that is good for us. In a wide-ranging conversation, we discuss the anthropology of cooking, our partnership with the microbial world, and how cooking for ourselves may be the best thing we can do for our health.

Michael Pollan will be signing "Cooked" tonight at Crosstown Arts at 422 N. Cleveland at an off-site event with The Booksellers at Laurelwood. You will need a line ticket to get your book signed (come at 5:00 if you want barbecue!). http://www.thebooksellersatlaurelwood.com/event/offsite-event-crosstown-arts-michael-pollan

I began piano lessons at age 6, trumpet at age 9, and began teaching myself the guitar at 10. My electronics knowledge comes from my father, who had the RCA television and stereo shop in my hometown of Pocahontas, Arkansas for nearly 20 years. My dad is still fixing televisions at age 79.
