C.A. Editor Louis Graham and the State of the Paper

Louis Graham sees hard journalism as the key to the Commercial Appeal's future. In the meantime, Memphis' largest paper will lose some frills.

Recent cutbacks at the paper include reducing the number of features sections each week. But Graham, who spent years as an investigative reporter, says the Commercial Appeal needs to focus on being the community watchdog. His priority is the A-section journalism that exposes corruption and keeps people informed about local government.

He added that under his watch, there has been renewed emphasis on investigative reporting. He pointed to recent reporting by Marc Perrusquia on the MPD rape kit scandal and last weekend's special report about immigrants in Memphis.

Reporting from the gates of Graceland to the balcony of the Lorraine Motel, Christopher has covered Memphis news, arts, culture and politics for more than 20 years in print and on the radio. He is currently WKNO's News Director and Senior Producer at the University of Memphis' Institute for Public Service Reporting.
