Cheers!

Tomorrow is National Drink a Beer Day.

I thought it would be best to drink one of our locally-made beers in honor of the day so I called Jimmy Randall, head brewer of the Ghost River Brewing Company, for some advice on what I should drink and a little info about this popular local brewery.

“Beer is my personal favorite beverage of choice. Not only because I am a brewer but also because I can enjoy more of them than say if I was drinking whiskey. And there is just more diverse flavor profiles that you can build between the interplay of malt and hops than you can get simply fermenting grape juice into wine, no offense to the sommeliers out there!”

So which one of the many Ghost River beers should you consider starting with?

“Hands down the Ghost River Gold is our top seller. It’s just a very balanced drinkable beer that appeals to craft beer drinkers and it also appeals to your domestic light lager drinkers as well. Doesn’t have too strong of a flavor to offend their palate but still has enough flavor to not turn away a craft beer drinker.”

And why has brewing beer in Memphis become popular?

“One of the great allures about brewing beer here in Memphis is the ground water supply that we have that comes from the Memphis sand aquifer. Ghost River Brewing is named after the Ghost section of the Wolf River, which happens to be a recharge point for the Memphis sands. As part of our commitment to supporting the water that we have, we have been in a partnership since day one with the Wolf River Conservancy providing support and funding for them from every barrel we sell.”
