Culture Desk: Crosstown Concourse Could Have Healthy Impact

Christopher Blank

On today's Culture Desk, Scott Morris of the Church Health Center says that the renovation to the formerly abandoned Sears warehouse -- called Crosstown Concourse -- could affect the overall health of Memphis.

Other facts about the $200 million building project scheduled for completion in early 2017:

  • By 2017, more than 360 miles of brick joints will be restored -- the distance from here to New Orleans.
  • The restoration includes 3,200 window sections, more than the White House and Capitol Building combined.
  • More than 1,500 new doors will be installed.
  • The Concourse will produce enough air conditioning to cool 700 three-bedrooms homes.
  • While the building itself has a 6 acre footprint, the available square footage inside the 10-storey building adds up to around 20 acres of space.
  •  The Church Health Center will have three pools, one for lap swimming and two others for therapeutic purposes.
  • 3,000 will make use of the building each day, either as residents, employees or visitors.
