Do I Like my Physician?

A healthy life is a good life. And this week, on WKNO’s Life Matters, Erica Walters with the Church Health Center asks an important question.

On a scale of 1 to 10 – one being good, 10 being bad-- how would you rank your physician?

Do you follow doctor’s orders? Show up for appointments? Sometimes that speaks volumes about how you actually feel about your physician.

Ease the pain of doctors’ visits (assuming there is pain) by seeing a physician whom you like.

Consider this: more than likely, you have very few words for someone you’re not fond of. And, that’s fine to a certain point. But, when it comes to your health, you want a physician you like and can talk to, openly.

And, while you may only have a few appointments each year, it’s important to make them count. Find a physician who makes you feel comfortable -- one that listens and doesn’t talk at you.

Taking care of yourself is a two way street. Remember: you are the expert of how you feel.

Now, think about where you ranked your physician on that scale of 1 to 10. Was it good? Have you told her everything she needs to know about your health? If not, maybe you should start searching for a better fit. I’m Erica Walters with the Church Health Center.
