Fuel Film Memphis Promotes Growth of City's Film Industry

Fuel Film Memphis is a not-for-profit organization engaged in promoting growth of the Memphis film industry by educating filmmakers and investors on the development of independent film projects, and facilitating relationships between investors, producers, directors, and writers to get more local films made in Memphis.

They create the infrastructure needed to help filmmakers, from the Fuel Film Suite at Start Lab, which provides space for production planning, auditions, creative meetings, production and editing, to holding workshops on marketing and distribution, to teaming up with Indie Memphis to host monthly filmmaking forums.

The company's founders, David Merrill and Matt Beickert, joined us in the studio to talk about their mission to ensure that film has a future in Memphis.

I owe my radio career to the Ford Motor Company. My daddy had a Ford dealership in our hometown of Clarksdale, Mississippi, and he thought it would be cute if his 7-year old daughter did his radio commercials. The pay wasn't great, just a pack of Wrigley's gum, but I was hooked on radio from then on.
