The Game is a Foot

What comes to mind when you hear: Jimmy Choo, Louboutin, and Manolo Blahnik?

If you answered shoes, you are correct! Some people treasure their earthly collection of shoes like some treasure vintage cars. There is no doubt that shoes can make or break your ensemble, but what about your feet? Developing a bad case of plantar fasciitis suddenly can change your perspective on your choice of shoes. My question, “why didn’t someone warn me about this earlier?”

The foot is truly an amazing part of our body that is a delicate network of bones and ligaments, yet strong enough to carry your body’s weight. Overuse or injury can cause foot pain.

One common foot disorder is plantar fasciitis.  It is caused by pain and inflammation of the fibrous tissue under the foot connecting the heel to the toes. This condition can worsen if not addressed. Consult with your physician to determine your method of treatment. Here are some questions to prepare you for your doctor’s appointment:

  • Do your symptoms tend to occur at a particular time of day?
  • What types of shoes do you usually wear?
  • Are you a runner, or do you participate in any sports that involve running?
  • Have you experienced any injuries to your feet in the past?
  • Besides your foot, do you feel pain anywhere else?
  • What, if anything, seems to improve or worsen your symptoms?

Remember, a healthy foot is a fashionable one. This is Sheila Harrell with the Church Health Center.
