Great Food for a Great Cause

Jennifer Chandler

Le Bon Appetit. One of my favorite food events in town.

This star-studded event combines great food, fun times …. and supports a really important cause, Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital. And it’s about to happen … April 16 is the date for this bi-annual event.

Kelly English, chef and owner of Restaurant Iris and Second Line, is one of the founders of the event.

“Le Bon Appetit is one of my favorite nights of the year … actually every other year. We bring in 15 chefs from all around the country and they cook with 15 local chefs. And we raise a bunch of money for Le Bonheur Hospital. A place that I really think is one of the most vital things that we have in town.”

“One of the really neat things about this event is the people that come in from out of town. People that come here year after year. Also we try to bring in new chefs every year. This year we have chefs like John Besh from New Orleans, Hugh Acheson from Atlanta, we have Naomi Pomeroy coming from Portland, Oregon. All to come and cook here in Memphis for our great hospital.”

Each visiting chef is paired with a local chef. They collaborate on their dishes and then cook together at the local chef’s restaurant.

“One of the funnest parts of this is watching relationships develop and seeing two people’s food at one table.”

“I can’t wait to see what all the chefs from out of town do and the chefs from in town. We’ve got a really incredible restaurant scene.”

This year’s event is at the Pipkin building at Tiger Lane. For tickets and more information, visit www.lebonappetit.org.
