Memphis Food and Wine Festival

Justin Fox Burks

The second annual Memphis Food & Wine Festival is just around the corner!

This amazing culinary event will be Saturday October 14 at the Memphis Botanic Garden.

I sat down with founding board members Nancy Kistler and Sherry Chimenti to learn about what’s on the plate for this year.

For those of you who didn’t attend last year, Sherry explains what the event is.

“The Memphis Food and Wine Festival is a showcase of some of the finest chefs in Memphis – spiced with amazing regional and international chefs. The Memphis Food and Wine Festival basically reinforces Memphis not only as a culinary hotspot … but truly a culinary destination.  And it’s all topped off with homegrown Memphis Music of course!”

As event coordinator, Nancy is in charge of helping organize all the chefs and wineries.

“We have an incredible line-up of chefs this year and amazing food. Last year our headliner was Jean Georges and we really didn’t think we could top it, but we have this year. We have guest chef Guy Savoy of Paris and Las Vegas as our headliner, joined by Tory McPhail of Commander’s Palace in New Orleans, Ken Frank of Napa, and Thierry Rautureau of Seattle.  Along with a whole group of chefs from all over the country who will be bringing amazing tastes to the table.”

In total there will be 33 chefs - 14 of which are from out of town!  That’s a lot of amazing bites!

And you won’t go thirsty.

“What an opportunity to drink incredible wines at the Festival this year. We have increased our number of vintners to 39 and we’ll be pouring over 200 excellent pours.”

Tickets are available at memphisfoodandwinefestival.org.

The Memphis Food and Wine Festival is Saturday, October 14, at The Live Garden at the Memphis Botanic Garden. For more information and tickets, visit www.memphisfoodandwinefestival.org.

The mission of the Festival is basically culinary with a cause. The presenting sponsor is FedEx and the charitable cause they are benefiting again this year is FedExFamilyHouse. The FedExFamilyHouse is a home-away-from-home for out of town families with children receiving treatment at Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital.
