Memphis, TN – Sebastian S. Kresge (1867-1966) attended the Eastman College of Business. He moved to Memphis and, in 1897, he entered into a partnership with J.G. McCrorey. They opened five and dime stores in Memphis and Detroit. Kresge went on to found the S.S. Kresge Company, which, in 1962, founded the first K-Mart store.
