Elaine Blanchard

Prison Stories is Voices of the South's latest outreach program, providing a year-long writing and theatre intensive for women currently serving time in the Shelby County Prison System.

Program director Elaine Blanchard talks with Kacky about Prison Stories IV, the latest incarnation of this project. In her words, "the women in the Prison Stories Project are using writing, theatre, and storytelling to move confidently into the future. Their stories are unique and valuable, dignified by the circle of trust they create for each other."

Presented by Voices of the South, Prison Stories IV will be at TheatreSOUTH (1000 S. Cooper in the Basement of First Congregational Church) Friday January 20th, 2012 and Saturday, January 21, 2012 at 8pm.

I owe my radio career to the Ford Motor Company. My daddy had a Ford dealership in our hometown of Clarksdale, Mississippi, and he thought it would be cute if his 7-year old daughter did his radio commercials. The pay wasn't great, just a pack of Wrigley's gum, but I was hooked on radio from then on.
