“Soul Man” Sam Moore Among this Year’s Hall of Fame Inductees

With hits such as “Soul Man” and “Hold On, I’m Coming,” the singing duo Sam & Dave were among the top artists on the Stax roster. Sam Moore, 80, talks with us about  his music and his career.

Moore's singing partner David Prater died in a car accident in 1988. Moore continued making music. His last album, in 2006, was called "Overnight Sensational" and was produced by Randy Jackson. Moore turned 80 on Oct. 12.

This Saturday night, he will be among the inductees of the Memphis Music Hall of Fame along with Justin Timberlake and Scotty Moore (Elvis’ original guitarist). Others being enshrined posthumously include Al Jackson Jr. (of the MGs), country hit-maker Charlie Rich, blues singer Alberta Hunter, Booker T. and the MGs, and bluesman Memphis Slim.

The induction ceremony is 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 17, at the Cannon Center for the Performing Arts. Tickets are $39 to $87. Call (800) 745-3000.
